LONG LIFE PAVEMENTS Empty LONG LIFE PAVEMENTS

Bitumen due to its physical property of black color, absorbs the solar radiation and gets heated up. When the temperature of the surface reaches a point known as softening point it becomes softened and less viscous and splits sideways. This has been a major cause for the pavement failures before their proposed design life. Generally Softening point is around 60-80 C for good graded bitumen used in the construction of NHs.
So we propose a network of small diameter pipes that run through the bituminous layer and are buried in earth forming a closed loop. Now, during daytime when temperature of the top layer raises water in the pipes get heated by absorbing some heat from Bitumen and this heated water is now replaced by fresh water from the earth which is at lower temperature through convection. Thus the flow in water occurs and the heat is constantly removed from the bituminous layer effectively
